  Islands of strangers were never meant to instil fear;
an inner land made dry by endless drought
dredges up distant memories of seats
at unknown tables offered without debt or question    
    Closed eyes exhausted by an endless glare
turn the page of remembrance to the freedom fighters
worn out by what resistance demanded of them;
their eyelids, grown impatient of a tardy moon,
take it upon themselves to eclipse a sun that shines on them without yielding
